About me

Dr. Jolie L. Chang is an otolaryngologist who specializes in surgery to treat obstructive sleep apnea. She serves as chief of the UCSF Division of Sleep Surgery. She has expertise in sleep endoscopy (a technique for assessing the airway during sleep) and upper airway surgery, snoring surgery, palate surgery, tongue base surgery and hypoglossal nerve stimulation implant surgery (implanting a device that controls tongue movement in sleep). She also specializes in minimally invasive surgery for noncancerous salivary gland disorders (such as salivary stones) with sialendoscopy (a method of examining the salivary gland openings and removing obstructions using a very small endoscope). She treats salivary blockage from stones and salivary issues related to treatment with radioactive iodine. She is also an expert in ultrasound of the head and neck and ear, nose and throat disorders.

Chang's research interests include decision making in health care and improvements for sleep apnea therapy and sialendoscopy. She has also authored book chapters on sleep apnea therapies, salivary disorders and imaging for salivary glands. She serves as the director of resident research for otolaryngology – head and neck surgery.

Chang graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree and a master of engineering degree in electrical engineering and computer science. She earned her medical degree and completed her residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery at UCSF. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr Chang seems superior to most doctors and surgeons that have treated me in the past. She spent a lot of time with me and seemed genuinely interested and concerned with my health.

If I know anyone that is in need of an ENT, I will recommend they go to UCSF!
