About me

Dr. Joseph Pierre, who goes by Joe, is a psychiatrist who cares for adults requiring hospitalization for mental illness, including psychosis and severe mood disorders. He serves as chief of the inpatient unit at UCSF Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital.

Pierre's research experience includes serving as a primary investigator and collaborator on clinical trials – studies of promising treatments – related to schizophrenia and early interventions for young people at high risk for psychosis. His current research focuses on delusions and unfounded beliefs, including conspiracy theories.

Pierre earned his bachelor's degree in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At the University of California, Los Angeles, he earned his medical degree and completed a residency in psychiatry. In addition to more than 100 academic publications, his professional credits include the book ""False: How Mistrust, Disinformation, and Motivated Reasoning Make Us Believe Things That Aren't True"" as well as the blog ""Psych Unseen.""
