About me
Dr. Julia Maheshwari is a pulmonary and critical care medicine specialist who focuses on lung transplantation and severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). She evaluates patients with end-stage lung disease to see if they are candidates for transplantation and cares for transplant recipients. For her patients with COPD, she works within a team of specialists from other disciplines, seeking to improve health-related quality of life, reduce hospital readmissions and streamline consideration for advanced disease therapies.
Maheshwari's research focuses on improving understanding of frailty and sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass and poor muscle quality) in lung transplant patients. She is also involved in clinical trials – studies of promising new therapies or approaches – related to patient care following lung transplantation.
Maheshwari earned her medical degree from New York University Grossman School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. At UCSF, she completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine, focusing on advanced lung disease and lung transplantation.
