Julian Hong, MD, MS

Dr. Julian Hong is a radiation oncologist who specializes in caring for patients with cancers of the genital and urinary organs, including prostate, bladder and kidney cancers. He has particular expertise in advanced techniques that boost precision, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy, image-guided radiation therapy and stereotactic body radiation therapy.

Hong's research centers on developing and exploring the use of computational tools for providing patients with personalized precision treatment. His laboratory uses clinical knowledge and data science techniques to generate insights from real-world data, develop machine learning tools, and study the ways these insights and tools can lead to better patient outcomes. He led one of the first randomized studies demonstrating that machine learning can direct patient care strategies to improve outcomes.

Hong earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He completed a residency in radiation oncology at Duke University Medical Center. He has a master's degree in bioengineering from Stanford University.

Hong serves on NRG Oncology's research committee on cancer care delivery. He is also a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology's science education and program development subcommittee and the American Medical Informatics Association's summit scientific program committee.
