About me
Dr. Justin Field is a gastroenterologist who cares for patients with a wide range of digestive system concerns. Specializing in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, he founded the UCSF Rainbow IBD Clinic to meet the unique needs of LGBTQ+ patients who have IBD, with the goal of helping them not only manage their condition but thrive. He is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive health care environment and to providing personalized treatment plans that address all aspects of his patients' well-being.
Field's research is dedicated to improving health and quality of life for people with IBD. A key focus of his work is understanding the risk factors for anal cancer in IBD patients and finding the best ways to prevent it. Recognizing that each patient's experience is unique, he is studying the specific needs of LGBTQ+ individuals living with IBD and how to tailor health care to better meet those needs.
Field earned his medical degree at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, where he served as chief resident. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, followed by a fellowship in inflammatory bowel disease at UCSF.
