About me

Dr. Karen R. Meckstroth is director of the UCSF Center for Pregnancy Options. She is also a generalist obstetrician and gynecologist in the UCSF faculty division at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, and she serves as consulting medical director for the Women's Community Clinic in San Francisco.

Meckstroth’s particular interests include the medication misoprostol, medical abortion and pain control with gynecological procedures.

Meckstroth earned her medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center. At UCSF, she completed a fellowship in family planning clinical care and research, as well as advanced clinical research training in epidemiology and biostatistics. She also has a master's degree in health policy and management from the University of California, Berkeley.

Meckstroth is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She is a member of the Society of Family Planning and serves on a regional advisory panel for Physicians for Reproductive Health.
