Dr. Karin Gaensler is a specialist in cancers of the blood who has a special interest in gene therapy. She is currently working to develop novel approaches for treating blood disorders caused by a specific gene mutation.

Gaensler earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. She then went on to complete her residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at UCSF.

Gaensler has received numerous awards, including a fellowship from the American Cancer Society, a fellowship from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and a physician-scientist award from the National Institutes of Health.

    This clinic sees people that are often quite sick. Dr. Gaensler is the best!! Her bedside manner and caring ways are most comforting! Her knowledge is obviously immense!

    Dr. Gaensler is the best! She cares about me as a patient and as a person. She listens to my concerns and, if an answer to my issue is not easy, she investigates and gets back to me.

    Dr. Gaensler has a unique capacity to make her patient feel part of the solution. She not only works to impart her extensive knowledge of hematological issues as clearly as possible, but has the background and interest to instruct the patient on general health issues. She has looked out for me on numerous occasions over the 16years that I have known her.
