About me
Katie Watkins Dewey is a pharmacist working with patients who have received lung or heart transplants. She reviews their medications for interactions and monitors them for signs of toxicity or other adverse effects. She also educates transplant recipients on the importance of complying with their medication regimens and develops strategies to help those who are having difficulty.
Dewey's research focuses on determining whether certain genetic factors make a patient more likely to have certain responses to medication. Her goal is to reach the day when a person's genetic makeup can be used to help predict how that individual will respond to a drug.
Dewey earned her doctor of pharmacy degree at UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She has worked at UCSF since 2009 and serves as the clinical coordinator of UCSF's residency program for pharmacists specializing in solid organ transplant.
Outside of work, Dewey chases her toddler around, practices yoga, takes indoor cycling classes and spends time with her family.
