Kellie Gater is a nurse practitioner who cares for patients having surgery for a variety of spinal conditions, including degenerative disc disease affecting any part of the spine; deformities, such as scoliosis; and spinal tumors. She helps evaluate and prepare patients for surgery and works to address their postsurgical needs. Her goal is to provide compassionate, supportive care and empower her patients to have the best possible outcomes.

Gater is interested in quality improvements in neurosurgery, and she assists with related research projects.

At the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Gater earned her master's degree in nursing as well as her doctor of nursing practice degree. Before coming to UCSF, she cared for patients at the University of California, Los Angeles.
