About me
Dr. Krishan Soni is an interventional cardiologist who cares for patients with conditions including complex coronary artery disease (CAD), acute coronary syndromes and cardiomyopathies (diseases of the heart muscle). He also provides critical cardiological care. In collaboration with the UCSF heart team, he performs procedures for patients in a category known as CHIP (complex higher-risk and indicated patients) and treats chronic total occlusions (blocked coronary arteries) in patients with advanced CAD.
At the UCSF Heart and Vascular Center, Soni serves as medical director for quality and safety. His focus is using clinical data and analytic capabilities to drive improvements in quality and value in cardiology, including cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. In addition, as a clinical quality improvement champion for the Division of Cardiology, he works on numerous projects to enhance the care provided to patients with cardiovascular disease. He brings his passion for medical education to both roles, seeking to engage UCSF medical students, residents and fellows in these endeavors.
Soni earned his medical degree at the Yale School of Medicine and his master of business administration degree, with a focus on health care operations and finance, at the Yale School of Management. He completed his residency in internal medicine at UCSF, serving as the first chief resident in quality improvement and patient safety – a research and teaching role focused on enhancing the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care. He remained at UCSF for fellowships in clinical cardiology and interventional cardiology, serving as chief fellow. He joined the faculty in 2016.
In addition to caring for patients at UCSF, Soni works with San Francisco's emergency medical services to help ensure delivery of high-quality emergency cardiac care throughout the city and county of San Francisco. He has also served on quality improvement committees for several state and national cardiovascular societies.
