Dr. Lindsay A. Hampson is a urologist who specializes in genitourinary reconstruction, or procedures to address complications related to scarring, radiation and surgery in the urinary system. In this area she specializes in complex urinary tract reconstruction and male incontinence. She also specializes in transitional urology, which focuses on providing comprehensive urologic care to patients diagnosed with urologic conditions in childhood as they become adults. In addition to caring for patients at UCSF, Hampson sees patients at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Hampson's background in medical ethics, health policy, and urologic trauma and reconstruction informs her research endeavors. Her specific interests include improving quality of care to support patients’ ability to make informed decisions, examining urinary incontinence in older adults, understanding financial incentives in urological health care, and improving health care by reducing inefficiencies and costs. Another focus of her research is to increase the understanding of patients with congenital urological disorders and to facilitate better outcomes, in terms of both their condition and their quality of life. She has authored numerous articles and book chapters on these topics, and her research has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Institute on Aging, Claude D. Pepper Older American Independence Centers and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

She completed a residency in urology at UCSF, where she received the Excellence and Innovation Award in Graduate Medical Education and completed a research fellowship at the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies. She subsequently completed a fellowship in genitourinary reconstruction and trauma at the University of Washington. She also earned a master of advanced study degree in clinical research at UCSF.
Having spent her childhood in Seattle and her undergraduate years at Duke University, Hampson is an avid fan of Duke Blue Devils basketball, University of Michigan football and the Seattle Seahawks.
