About me
Dr. Michael R. Davies is an orthopedic surgeon who cares for patients of all ages and athletic levels. In addition to common sports-related injuries, he specializes in complex shoulder and knee problems. He has expertise in minimally invasive procedures, which can minimize downtime and optimize outcomes. His approach to care centers on the needs and goals of patients, emphasizing personalized treatment plans that promote swift recovery and long-term joint health. He is committed to providing arthroscopic techniques and other treatments based on the latest advancements in sports medicine.
Davies earned his medical degree at UCSF, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF, earning the Mauer Chief Resident of the Year Award. Following a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery, he served as an assistant team physician to the New York Knicks and New York Liberty (NBA and WNBA teams, respectively).
Davies' research focuses on the role mesenchymal stem cells play in tissue regeneration and how they can be used to treat rotator cuff injuries. His work has been widely published and featured in presentations at national and international conferences. Using innovative technologies, such as single-cell RNA sequencing, he studies ways to harness the regenerative properties of stem cells in innovative treatments for muscle degeneration. He enjoys teaching and mentoring medical trainees interested in orthopedic surgery as well as those who want to pursue basic science and translational research.
Davies has received prestigious awards for his work, including the Excellence in Research Award and Cabaud Memorial Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM). He has also been awarded research grants, including the AOSSM Young Investigator Grant.
Outside of work, Davies is an accomplished piano player. Other pleasures include hiking, sports, and cooking for family and friends
