About me
Dr. Michelle E. Van Kuiken is a urologist who specializes in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. She performs surgical and nonsurgical treatments for pelvic organ prolapse (a condition in which pelvic organs, such as the bladder, have fallen out of place because their supporting tissues are damaged), urinary tract and vaginal fistulas (abnormal openings in or between organs), urethral diverticulum (when a pocket forms on the urethra, the tube that lets urine drain from the bladder), urethral stricture (a narrowing of the urethra caused by inflammation or scar tissue) and complications from transvaginal mesh (implanted material used in some female pelvic floor surgeries).
In addition to providing pelvic floor reconstruction, Van Kuiken cares for male and female patients with lower urinary tract dysfunction, including overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, urinary retention, recurrent urinary tract infections, and pelvic or bladder pain syndromes. She also cares for patients with complex neurological conditions that can affect the bladder, such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and spinal cord injuries.
Van Kuiken earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. She completed a residency in urology at Loyola Medicine and a fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (FPMRS) at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Wow. I am so happy with the care provided by Dr. Van Kuiken and the two doctors who were with her. I felt treated as an adult, with respect and consideration for my feelings as well as my condition as I described it. They were all familiar with my extensive medical history as well as my present problems. I felt safe and comfortable enough to talk with them and listen to their suggestions. Dr. Van Kuiken was very thorough in her assessment of my condition and recommendations for further testing and referrals. After 2 1/2 months of dealing with various medical providers about my condition, I feel that I have finally found a doctor who has the ability to determine the best treatment(s), based on the best available information and tests.

I believe the doctor was busy so I understand the appointment being a bit rushed. I wasn't entirely sure what to do after if the treatment we decided on didn't work. But I left feeling hopeful and the doctor was really lovely.

Clearly explains everything, concise and proceeds with my care one step at a time and leaves time for any questions I may have for her.

The doctor was attentive, warm, and expertly did her job. She kept me informed what she was doing. She also communicated with me before the appointment and answered my questions,
