Dr. Miguel Hernandez Pampaloni is director of nuclear cardiology for UCSF’s Molecular Imaging and Therapeutics clinical section, which oversees the practice of nuclear medicine, a branch of radiology in which specialists use small amounts of radioactive substances to examine organ function and structure, as well as to treat certain diseases.

Pampaloni earned his medical degree in Spain at Complutense University of Madrid. He completed training in nuclear medicine at Complutense University's San Carlos Hospital, in addition to earning his doctorate at the university. He was a postdoctoral fellow in cardiovascular nuclear medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He was a clinical research fellow in cardiac PET imaging at the Imperial College London Faculty of Medicine. He later completed a residency in nuclear medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine.

He worked at Penn Medicine from 2004 to 2009 before joining UCSF. He directs UCSF’s residency and fellowship programs for nuclear medicine.
