About me

Dr. Neelima Katragunta is a vascular surgeon with more than a decade of experience treating complex vascular disease, using both minimally invasive techniques and open surgery to restore blood flow, prevent amputation and reduce the risk of stroke. She specializes in peripheral artery disease and limb preservation, carotid artery disease and stroke prevention, aortic aneurysms and dissections, complex venous disease and dialysis access. She works closely with each patient to select treatments personalized for their body, overall health and individual goals.

Katragunta has a longstanding commitment to surgical education and mentorship. She began her academic career as an assistant professor of vascular surgery at the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa and later joined Stanford University School of Medicine as a clinical associate professor of vascular surgery. Most recently, she was an associate professor of vascular surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga, where she served as program director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship. Throughout her career, she has been actively involved in training and mentoring vascular surgery fellows, residents and medical students.

Katragunta has a strong interest in developing and strengthening programs treating vascular disease. She has experience expanding services, developing referral networks, improving clinical operations and bringing together teams across specialties to improve access and outcomes for patients with vascular disease. At UCSF, she serves as Medical Director of Vascular Services and leads the expansion of vascular surgery services and comprehensive vascular care across campuses.

Katragunta earned her medical degree from Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India. She completed a residency in general surgery at James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University and a fellowship in vascular surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
