About me
Dr. Niti Shahi is a general surgeon who specializes in both abdominal wall reconstruction and foregut surgery. She has special expertise in treating complex abdominal wall hernias, gastroesophageal reflux, achalasia, hiatal hernias and paraoesophageal hernias. Shahi provides compassionate patient-centered care and aims to empower patients with knowledge about their condition, so they can collaboratively choose treatment strategies that best support their long-term health and goals. She emphasizes thoughtful surgical planning and close partnership with referring clinicians to optimize outcomes. Shahi is experienced in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, allowing her to offer the full spectrum of surgical options tailored to each patient’s needs. She deeply values the trust that patients and their families place in her and strives to care for them with the same attention and dedication that she would offer her own family.
Shahi's research focuses on minimally invasive and robotic surgery to reduce pain, accelerate recovery, and improve patient outcomes.
Shahi earned her medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. She completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Massachusetts T.H. Chan School of Medicine. During her residency, she also completed a two-year research fellowship at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine, where she focused on surgical outcomes, device innovation and machine learning. After her residency, she completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery with a focus on bariatric (weight loss) surgery and open abdominal wall reconstruction at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in advanced foregut and abdominal wall reconstruction at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine.
