Patricia J. Moran, PhD

Patricia Moran is a psychologist who uses cognitive-behavioral, emotion-focused and mindfulness-based approaches to support cancer patients and their family members. She helps them cope with a wide array of concerns and symptoms related to cancer diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.

At the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Health, Moran has served as project director for several studies funded by the National Institutes of Health. These included two excellence-in-research grants on mindfulness-based interventions for HIV and obesity, as well as a study examining end-of-life care preferences and coping in cancer and HIV patients and their caregivers.

Moran earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Iowa, with a focus on health psychology. At the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System, she completed an American Psychological Association–approved internship with a specialization in behavioral medicine. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in psychology and medicine at UCSF.
