About me
Dr. Qing Wang is an ophthalmologist who cares for adults and children with glaucoma (damage to the optic nerve causing vision loss). She has expertise in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, glaucoma filtering surgery and glaucoma drainage device implantation. She also specializes in evaluating and surgically treating cataracts.
In her research, Wang focuses on understanding why childhood- and adult-onset glaucoma develops. In particular, she is interested in understanding how disruptions in the eye drainage system can affect eye pressure and why retinal ganglion cells are lost in glaucoma. Her research aims to improve glaucoma care through new genetic and neuroprotective therapies. She has received funding from the American Glaucoma Society and Glaucoma Research Foundation.
Wang earned her medical degree and doctorate in neurobiology at Columbia University after earning a joint bachelor's and master's degree in biochemistry at Yale University. She completed a residency in ophthalmology at UCLA Stein Eye Institute, where she also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in optic nerve regeneration. She then completed a fellowship in glaucoma at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute. Prior to joining UCSF, she was an assistant professor of ophthalmology at Columbia University.
Wang is dedicated to delivering individualized and compassionate care to patients of all ages. She is passionate about teaching and mentoring future ophthalmologists and vision scientists. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, photography and exploring the outdoors.
