Rebecca A. Berman, MD

Dr. Rebecca A. Berman is a specialist in internal medicine who provides primary care. Her areas of interest include women's health; health literacy, which involves the abilities to understand and apply health-related information; and caring for underserved populations.

As director of UCSF's internal medicine residency program, Berman trains young doctors. Her academic work focuses on improving gender and racial equity in medicine; she has a particular focus on teaching negotiation skills with the goal of increasing the number of women and underrepresented minorities in health care leadership.

After earning a bachelor's degree in African and African American studies at Harvard University, Berman earned her medical degree at Harvard Medical School. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where she served as chief resident in her final year.

Berman is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
