About me
Dr. Robert Gamburd is a physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor who diagnoses and cares for patients with neck and back pain, spinal disorders, nerve entrapments, injuries and degenerative problems in the extremities. He also specializes in pain management and has expertise in performing intraspinal and musculoskeletal injections.
Gamburd earned his medical degree at the University of Michigan. He completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Stanford University, where he served as chief resident. He completed a fellowship in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Sports, Orthopedic & Rehabilitation Medicine Associates.
Gamburd has spoken at numerous conferences and society meetings on topics in sports and physical medicine and has published multiple papers on the use of injections in the field. He has served as a medical consultant for the San Jose Cleveland Ballet and San Francisco Ballet. He has also been team doctor for the San Francisco 49ers and Stanford University Athletics. Prior to joining UCSF, he worked in private practice with Sports Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Associates (SOAR), and served as an assistant clinical professor in functional restoration at Stanford University.
Gamburd is a founding member of the International Spinal Injection Society; a founding board member of the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation; and a charter member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. He has served on committees for the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, North American Spine Society and California Medical Association. In addition, he is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, California Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, California Medical Association, National Football League Physicians Society, San Mateo County Medical Association and American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
