About me
Dr. Shabnam Peyvandi is a pediatric cardiologist with expertise in diagnosing and managing heart disease before birth. She holds the Benioff Professorship in Children's Health.
Peyvandi founded and co-directs the Pediatric Healthy Hearts and Minds Program, which works to support long-term development and quality of life for children born with heart defects. Her team participates in national and international collaborative efforts to promote the well-being of these children.
Peyvandi's funded research focuses on early markers of developmental outcomes in children born with heart disease. She directs the UCSF Pediatric Heart Center's cardiovascular research program, which aims to advance scientific understanding and innovative care in pediatric cardiovascular disease.
Peyvandi earned her medical degree from New York Medical College and completed a residency in pediatrics at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. She completed a fellowship in cardiology and an advanced fellowship in imaging and fetal cardiology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia before joining UCSF in 2013. She also has a master of advanced study degree in clinical research from the UCSF Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
Peyvandi is a fellow of the American Heart Association and American Society of Echocardiography. She is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research. She has won numerous awards for her research and teaching at UCSF.
