Dr. Shalini Dixit is a cardiologist who cares for patients with a wide variety of cardiovascular diseases and specializes in echocardiography (using ultrasound to image the heart). She interprets imaging results, performs transesophageal echocardiograms (in which a flexible tube is passed down the esophagus to obtain images) and provides imaging guidance in heart valve procedures. Dixit has studied how lifestyle factors, such as caffeine and alcohol consumption, affect cardiac risk, and she enjoys helping patients adopt heart-healthy habits. She also conducts research related to echocardiography.

Dixit earned her medical degree at UCSF, where she also completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowships in cardiovascular disease and advanced echocardiography.

    I loved meeting Dr Dixit. My mom and I were tense with each other and she helped us get through the appointment. My mother tries to downplay her symptoms because she's scared and untrusting of doctors, which is upsetting and frustrating for sister and I. I appreciated Dr Dixit letting me and my sister voice our concerns.

    I did not feel she listened to my concerns or addressed the symptoms that concerned me the most. I had to repeat myself before she acknowledged those symptoms. I prefer not to see that provider again. I felt like I was just a number and she was in a rush to move on
