Sharon Chiang, MD

Dr. Sharon Chiang is a neurologist who specializes in caring for patients with epilepsy, including those with complex epilepsy that is difficult to control. She works closely with each patient to address not only seizure control but also the broader effects of epilepsy on well-being and quality of life. She has a particular interest in advanced epilepsy treatments for complex patients, including medication, epilepsy surgery and implanted neuromodulation devices.  

Chiang is a lab-based and clinically based physician-scientist who studies how cell circuits in epilepsy lead to memory difficulties and explores potential new approaches for addressing memory issues in epilepsy. She also studies how to optimize neuromodulation for epilepsy using intracranial recordings. 

Chiang earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, followed by a residency in neurology and a fellowship in epilepsy at UCSF. She has a doctorate in statistics from Rice University and conducted post-doctoral research on hippocampal electrophysiology and memory in the physiology department at UCSF. 

Chiang is a member of the American Epilepsy Society, American Academy of Neurology and American Neurological Association.
