Dr. Siegrid Yu is a dermatologic surgeon who specializes in Mohs micrographic surgery (a precise technique for removing skin cancer while sparing healthy tissue) and surgical reconstruction for skin cancer. She also has expertise in laser surgery; rejuvenation of aging skin, including use of Botox injections and soft tissue fillers, and treatments for visible leg veins; and cosmetic treatment of Asian skin.

In her research, Yu investigates Merkel cell carcinoma and other skin cancers as well as skin cancer in immunosuppressed patients. Her research honors include the Clinical Career Development Award in Dermatologic Surgery from the Dermatology Foundation.

Yu earned her medical degree at the University of Washington. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Stanford Medicine, where she served as chief resident. She completed a residency in dermatology at UCSF, where she also was chief resident, and a fellowship in Mohs surgery and procedural dermatology at UCSF.

Yu is a member of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) and has received an ASDS Cutting Edge Research Grant. She also is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American College of Mohs Surgery and American Medical Association. She serves as director of UCSF’s fellowship program in procedural dermatology.

    I could go on for a long time but Dr Darwish, Dr Yu, and Donald (the nurse) really took their time and explained everything and this was easily the best care Ive ever gotten for any issue.

    Dr. Siegrid Yu was as usual outstanding. She listened to my concerns and explained options thoughtfully, and carefully. The room may have been cramped and the chair too small, but the level of care was terrific.

    The doctor and fellow were of the highest quality explaining what they were doing as they worked. The doctor was proactive in requesting more detailed examines of my MRI as a lab follow-up and worked closely with the fellow. The fellow did my complex stitches and when I expressed interest in a deeper understanding of aspects of the procedure they explained things like the multiple layers of stitches and stitch types (dissolving or not). They went into nice details that made me feel informed. They even offered me a choice for the top stitches (dissolving or not), which gave me a feeling some control and that they cared about my input. Top scores for both the fellow's technical skills (the stitches are evenly spaced and symmetric) and their Emotional IQ, which was VERY high for a surgeon. My overall a very experience was overwhelmingly positive.

    My expectations when receiving treatment at a Dermatologic Laser Center is to have more engagement by the various physicians and to offer more advice on how to treat my skin conditions. Offer options that should address my concerns and make me feel hopeful that their treatments will be esthetically pleasing results.

    Dr. Yu was phenomenal, friendly, and supportive. She explained the steps and ensured I was at ease during the procedure with frequent check-ins. Dr. Yu's skills and bedside demeanor were equally impressive, as were her teaching abilities. Her skill as a surgeon is off the charts excellent. I truly value that Dr. Yu also made space for my procedure to fit my unique schedule for an upcoming wedding and did amazing work to reduce/minimize scaring and set clear expectations of what would happen after surgery.
