About me

Dr. Simon Fung is an ophthalmologist who provides comprehensive eye care to both children and adults. He specializes in diseases of the anterior segment (front part of the eye). His expertise includes precision surgeries to treat corneal disorders and cataracts, as well as advanced corneal transplantation. He is dedicated to using the latest techniques and technologies to ensure the best possible outcomes for his patients.

Fung's research focuses on enhancing precision and accuracy in anterior segment surgeries. He uses cutting-edge imaging techniques, such as anterior segment optical coherence tomography, to improve the understanding and treatment of corneal conditions.

Fung earned his medical degree from the University of Oxford in England. At the Moorfields Eye Hospital, he completed a residency at the University College London Institute of Ophthalmology and a fellowship in cornea, cataract, external disease and refractive surgery. He also completed a fellowship in pediatric cornea and external diseases at the Hospital for Sick Children in Canada. Prior to joining UCSF, Fung practiced at UCLA.

Active in professional organizations, Fung is an advocate for young ophthalmologists and those in training. He has received achievement awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a certificate of commendation from the European Society of Ophthalmology.

Fung is committed to global ophthalmology and has participated in international eye care initiatives. He is passionate about advancing pediatric eye care, especially in underserved communities, and seeks to ensure that language is never a barrier to patients receiving excellent eye care.
