About me
Dr. Stephanie Cordonnier is a primary care provider and geriatrician who is passionate about advocating for patients of diverse identities and backgrounds as they age. She sees herself as a partner in her patient's health, focusing on caring for the whole person and centering them every step of the way. Together, she and her patients make informed health decisions that best align with their health goals, taking into special consideration the things that bring them joy and meaning in their lives.
As a geriatrician, Cordonnier has additional expertise in issues related to aging, including difficulties with memory, mobility and falls and managing medications; for example, she works with patients to ensure they take only medications appropriate for them. She also has experience helping patients and caregivers navigate care transitions when they need more help at home. Some of the aspects of being a geriatrician she most enjoys are the lasting relationships that emerge from her practice, the teamwork across disciplines and the ample opportunities she has for creativity and reflective practice.
Cordonnier has a special interest in refugee and immigrant health, intersectional identities in older adults, access to care in rural communities, making the constructed environment more senior-friendly and improving access to public transit and active transportation such as walking and bicycle use. In research, she has focused on improving the health span and cognitive health of older adults.
Cordonnier earned her medical degree at the University of Toledo College of Medicine. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Brown University and a fellowship in geriatrics at UCSF.
Public transit and active transportation such as biking and walking are of special interest for Cordonnier, and she takes the MUNI to work every day. She also loves learning about other people's passions. She has a great appreciation for the arts and music and also enjoys eating spicy food, kayaking, fishing, mindful walks and stargazing.
