About me
Dr. Steven W. Cheung is an otologist-neurotologist, a physician who treats patients with conditions affecting the ears, balance, skull base and other parts of the head and neck. His expertise includes treating eardrum perforation, cholesteatoma (a skin growth that can occur behind the eardrum), otosclerosis (a disorder of ear bones that causes hearing loss) and acoustic neuroma (a noncancerous tumor that presses on ear nerves involved in balance and hearing). He also performs surgeries to implant devices that treat various forms of hearing loss.
Cheung's current research focuses on how the brain learns and reorganizes in response to hearing loss and tinnitus. His goal is to develop innovative therapies for hearing restoration.
Cheung earned his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a residency in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at UCSF, where he also completed clinical and research fellowships in neurological ear disorders.

I asked a million questions. He was helpful and friendly. Very knowledgeable about hereditary conditions.

Dr Cheung was great! He set my mind at ease about my condition. He explained everything succinctly and in a way that was completely understandable. He had great bedside manner and is a kind and knowledgeable provider. I am very happy to know that I have someone like him on my team in case of further need.

Very good. He answered my questions and guided appropriately. But looking back, really didn't give me a good sense of what is done in the surgery and what my experience and recovery would be. We just talked about my biggest fears which seem to be a low percentage or never experienced by his patients. My fault for not asking I guess, or feeling like we were running out of time and not looking through my prepared questions again. If any complaint, maybe a printout can be provided that we could go through together. After the meeting I spend some hours on websites and youtube and understand it better. I really should have done that first and driven part of the discussion. Maybe that can be advised in prep for the meeting.

Dr Cheung was wonderful. He really gave me his time and attention, and provided thorough explanations about his diagnosis and recommendations. Simply outstanding.
