About me

Dr. Tamara Sanchez Ortiz is an internal medicine specialist who provides primary and urgent care for adult patients. She has special interests in lifestyle medicine (using nutrition and physical activity to improve health), chronic disease management (such as treating diabetes and high blood pressure), women's health (including family planning and perimenopause) and caring for underserved urban populations and patients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. She enjoys building long-term relationships with patients and helping them improve their physical, mental and emotional well-being. She strives to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment where she partners with patients to achieve their health goals through life's many transitions.

Sanchez Ortiz earned her medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, as well as a master's degree in public health. She completed a residency in internal medicine at UCSF through the Primary Care Program, which focuses on caring for marginalized urban populations, and served as outpatient chief resident at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

In addition to caring for patients, Sanchez Ortiz is also passionate about designing programs that improve the health of entire communities. She is also an active educator helping to train the next generation of physicians.

Outside of work, Sanchez Ortiz enjoys running in the Presidio, biking in the Marin Headlands, playing soccer and beach volleyball at Ocean Beach, learning to dance, sampling San Francisco's diverse food scene and experimenting with vegetarian and vegan cooking and baking.
