Dr. Tina Shih, a neurologist at the UCSF Epilepsy Center, specializes in treating epilepsy in the elderly, managing patients with drug-resistant seizures and caring for patients who have surgery for epilepsy. She also has expertise in psychiatric conditions related to epilepsy.

Shih earned her medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine and completed an internship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. After a residency in neurology at Columbia University Medical Center, she completed a fellowship in epilepsy at the Columbia Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. Her research interests include the use of antiepileptic drugs in nursing homes as well as racial and ethnic disparities in epilepsy.

    Dr Shih has helped me through some difficult times. She has acted as my main support for many years and she takes the time to listen to my thoughts and concerns. The only thing that I don't like about a video appointment is the personal experience of being with her but under short notice and needing a meeting fast this is wonderful.

    Dr. Shih is well informed about my medical situation in all areas, including those outside her "specialty," and stays up to date the latest activity- which has changed a lot over the past month! This includes an ongoing hassle with my medical insurance company, my Hem-Onc, and the Hem-Onc's reference to her in his notes.

    Dr Shih was fabulous. She is very skilled with seizure treatments. She has alot of clinical mileage in treatment recommendations. She speaks in language a lay person can understand. I would highly recommend her . She is very adept at looking at brain MRIs. She's very down to earth and suggested less exspensive sources for med Rx. She was very thorough. I gave her a big hug at end of visit.

    Dr. Shih is amazing- our appointment included the analysis of every part of me-parts I didn't think were neurologically an issue. But she went beyond physical issues and showed concern for living situations-home family friends basic abilities for independence-I felt very well examined and my care is going to be handled-so comforting

    Dr Shih has helped me deal with my epilepsy for almost 20 years. With the onset of Covid, she made arrangements for me to get all of my medications renewed without any problems. She has always been a safety net for me and I am grateful for her support. UCSF is very lucky to have such a wonderful doctor as her.

    Dr. Shih is always there to help me and listen to me at her full extent. She makes it easy and understandable to know about any results or changes to my medication. She also takes into consideration my thoughts, feelings, and opinions. Having a doctor like her is a blessing because many times I have been told that I am not the doctor and they should be the only ones taking charge with my health. Not here. If there is something in concern, Dr. Shih is there to fully listen to me.

    Amazing care provider, and deeply knowledgeable about my condition. Answered all questions in depth in a way I understood.     My Mother, who passed away 10 years ago, found Dr. Shih for me! She is the one who has helped me with my Grand Mal Seizures! She is the best Doctor I have ever seen. She helps me Medically and also Emotionally! I have told 23 of my Friends who have Neurological problems about Dr. Shih because she Is the BEST NEUROLOGIST EVER!

    Clearly able to understand patients POV and desire for technical detail or not and able to evaluate patients learning style and communication style. For me, able to talk technically abt condition and medication, point me to further data, and able to answer my detailed technical questions and followup questions easily without being offended or simplifying.
