About me

Dr. V. Mohan Reddy is a pediatric heart surgeon who serves as chief of the UCSF Division of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery and co-director of the UCSF Pediatric Heart Center. He specializes in surgical repair of complex heart defects in infants, children and adults, with a particular focus on newborns. He has performed pioneering heart surgeries on premature and extremely underweight newborns who had been considered inoperable.

Reddy earned his medical degree from Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, India. He completed residencies in general surgery and cardiothoracic and vascular surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He then came to the U.S., where he served as chief pediatric heart surgery resident at Boston Children's Hospital for a year. He then completed a clinical fellowship in pediatric cardiovascular surgery at Nicklaus Children's Hospital and a combined clinical and research fellowship in pediatric cardiac surgery at UCSF. He joined the UCSF faculty in 1996.

Previously, Reddy was chief of pediatric cardiac surgery at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford as well as an associate professor of cardiothoracic surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Reddy is an active volunteer surgeon with Children's HeartLink, an international nonprofit organization that provides complex cardiac care to children in remote regions around the world, with yearly surgical clinics in India, Malaysia and China. He serves on the editorial boards of the medical journals Pediatric Cardiology, Annals of Pediatric Cardiology and World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, American Heart Association and Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
