About me
Vinaya Murthy is a genetic counselor who cares for families undergoing genetic evaluations. Focusing on the needs of individual patients and families, she provides education on genetic and hereditary disorders, screening, testing options and follow-up care. Her expertise includes cancer genetics, rare diseases, neurological genetic diseases in adults, and neurodevelopmental conditions in children.
In partnership with underserved communities, Murthy conducts research to address disparities in genomic care. She also explores how to improve education in genomic medicine for health care professionals and trainees.
Murthy earned her master's degree in genetic counseling at the University of Pittsburgh. She earned a doctorate in translational health sciences at George Washington University and a master of public health degree, with a focus on public health genetics, at the University of Washington.
