Dr. Timothy Berger is a dermatologist who specializes in rare, challenging and complex skin disorders. He cares for patients with autoimmune bullous disease, viral skin diseases, sexually transmitted diseases of the skin, skin diseases of the Tropics, photosensitivity disorders (overreaction to sunlight), infectious diseases of the skin, warts and pruritus (itching).

Berger has been inducted into the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators, an honor bestowed on faculty members who have shown particular dedication to medical student teaching. In 1989, he was honored with the Henry J. Kaiser Award for Excellence in Teaching. In both 1991 and 2001, the UCSF residents in dermatology named him teacher of the year.

Berger serves on the board of the American Academy of Dermatology. He has published more than 125 scientific articles, 12 book chapters and two books.

Berger sees patients only by referral or in the UCSF Executive Health Practice.

    Dr Berger is the doc who diagnosed my MCAS after 20 years of wrongful treatment at other clinics. He is an outstanding doc and I'm so grateful to have him. I wish there are more docs like him. God bless him so that he lives super long and I can get his treatment. Thank you.

    Dr. Berger knows dermatology better that anyone else and the same goes for skills when doing things with very skilled hands. One definitely feels an overload that leads to being rushed.

    Dr. Berger addressed all my questions provided great clarifications/knowledge and gave me assurance that I will get better. Compared to seeing previous dermatologist I was left hopeless BUT after seeing Dr. Berger I left hopeful.

    Doctor's resident performed a biopsy on my heel which has been a terrible impediment. I'm not sure it was even necessary. Now almost 2 months later I am still limping. The biopsy has been more debilitating than almost any other procedure more than serious skin cancer surgery in early Nov.

    Exceptional doctor! Best I've seen in years both in knowledge and compassion. Wld appreciate a bit more on risks of meds yet again Dr. Berger is above and beyond. Resident refreshing in that he was honest about what he did not know rather than trying to "fake" his way through some of my questions. His sunny disposition made me feel good. Again Dr. Berger an absolute gem!

    I saw another Dr (female) first. She was extremely attentive and listened well to me. Dr. Berger came in later with two other interns--then things moved quickly. Because I'm trying a new regimen I would have liked to have heard more about what might happen and what to do if a bad reaction does happen. The initial woman doctor did say a little at the end about that but I wished I had heard more after the visit. She was excellent. So is Dr. Berger.

    I was expecting to receive after visit notes that detailed amount of supplements and medications to take and info on physical medicine docotir and MRI. I have left two email messages and one phone message and have not had a reply. Now headed into a weekend and don't know how much to take.

    The resident spent so much time listening explaining options and then following-up with a proactive phone call suggesting a more cost effective way to obtain a medication. I'm so appreciative!

    Care received from UCSF is not what I expected. Provider does not listen appointment was very short and rushed. Did not feel they cared about my symptoms. First visit they said they had a plan it consisted of two parts: 1 find out what is causing the issue and 2 treat the issue. This visit I was basically told we are just going to try a bunch of medications and see if one works. Said nothing about looking for a cause. Doctor rushed out of the room and didn't ask if I had any questions.
