Vasantha Jotwani, MD


Dr. Vasantha Jotwani is a nephrologist who cares for patients with kidney disease. She also provides outpatient nephrology consultation services for referring physicians at UCSF and from other hospitals in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Jotwani's research interests include the causes and consequences of kidney disease in people with HIV and the discovery of newer tests of kidney injury. In addition to clinical work and research, she is passionate about medical education. She teaches residents and physicians on fellowships who are undertaking elective nephrology rotations.

Jotwani earned her medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She then completed a residency in internal medicine at UCSF, where she served as chief resident for an additional year. She completed a fellowship in nephrology at UCSF.

Jotwani is an assistant professor of nephrology at UCSF. She also cares for patients on chronic dialysis and provides inpatient nephrology consultation services at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She is a member of the American Society of Nephrology and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Outside of work, Jotwani enjoys singing, trail running and spending time with her husband and three children.
