Andreea Seritan, MD

Geriatric psychiatrist

Dr. Andreea L. Seritan is a geriatric psychiatrist who specializes in treating patients with movement disorders and associated psychiatric symptoms. Seritan divides her time between the outpatient psychiatry clinic, where she directs the Psychiatric Assessment and Brief Intervention Program, and the Movement Disorders and Neuromodulation Center, where she sees patients and conducts research. Before joining UCSF, Seritan was part of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UC Davis, where she also served as associate dean for student wellness.

Seritan's research work focuses on understanding the psychiatric and cognitive aspects of fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome (FXTAS) and Parkinson's disease. She was a member of the pioneering interdisciplinary team that characterized FXTAS-associated dementia and other fragile X premutation-related psychiatric manifestations for the first time in the international literature.

Seritan received her medical degree from the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania. She completed a psychiatry residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Tex., followed by a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Seritan is a clinical professor in the UCSF School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry.
