Why choose UCSF Health for neuromuscular care?

We provide comprehensive treatment for all types of neuromuscular disorders, including complex and rare diseases. Our advanced electromyography (EMG) lab and imaging facilities enable us to offer a precise and prompt diagnosis. UCSF Health is also pioneering treatments and cures with one of the largest neurology research programs in the U.S.

Our team includes many specialists and health care professionals who work together to create highly personalized treatment plans. As part of the Weill Institute for Neurosciences, we're committed to advancing understanding and therapies through research and providing world-class care.

Comprehensive neuromuscular care

Neuromuscular diseases affect the nerves that control voluntary muscle movement (such as walking or talking) and nerves that send sensory messages to your brain. Our team of specialists and providers collaborates to understand the condition you have, relieve your symptoms and support you. Since many neuromuscular diseases begin in childhood and require ongoing care, we help young adults transition smoothly to adult care when the time is right.

Our team includes:

  • Neurologists

  • Pulmonologists

  • Rheumatologists

  • Gastroenterologists

  • Genetic counselors

  • Dietitians

  • Occupational, physical, respiratory and speech therapists

  • Social workers

We also have orthotic specialists who provide braces and other supportive devices. Our orthotist designs and fits the devices for personalized support.
