Birth Center Tour

No. All rooms in the UCSF Birth Center are private and have their own restroom.

If all nine labor rooms are in active use, you will be taken to our antepartum unit, which has 12 rooms. All of these rooms can be equipped with everything needed for a safe delivery. Please note, however, that only the labor rooms have the Jacuzzi bathtub.

Remember to call us at (415) 353-1787 when you think you are in labor, so we can prepare for your arrival.

All labor rooms come with a flat-screen television that is controlled by a tablet, with access to Wi-Fi, educational materials and a variety of movies. There is a safe with a combination lock for storing valuables. Each room has a sofa bed for your support person; we will provide all linens and pillows for overnight use. All rooms have natural light. You will be able to control the lighting and temperature in your room. View a slideshow tour of one of our labor-and-delivery rooms here.

Patients are allowed one support person for the duration of their hospital stay. This person must not have any symptoms of COVID-19. The Birth Center is not allowing other visitors at this time due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Prior to entering the Birth Center, all visitors are screened at the main information desk on the first floor. Security is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Each visitor will be issued a dated visitor's pass that must be worn at all times.

Yes. Please note that if you have food delivered from a restaurant, you must send someone down to the main lobby to pick it up, as the delivery person cannot go to the third floor.

You will also have access to a pantry stocked with basic snacks and drinks, as well as a refrigerator, freezer and microwave. Each unit in the Birth Center has a pantry.

Long-term parking is located in front of the hospital. There is a surface lot as well as a large parking structure. Parking is $35 per day and will renew every 24 hours. UCSF does not validate parking. Limited street parking is available with some restrictions.

If you are a prenatal patient of UCSF, One Medical or Golden Gate Obstetrics & Gynecology, you will already have been registered.
