About me
Dr. Abigail (Abby) Burns is an obstetrician-gynecologist who provides reproductive health care for patients from adolescence through post-menopause. She partners with her patients to address a broad range of concerns, including menstrual issues and abnormal uterine bleeding, sexual health and contraception, preconception and fertility, fibroids and ovarian cysts, PCOS, pelvic pain and menopause symptoms. Her work includes in-office prenatal and postpartum care as well as labor and delivery care for hospitalized patients. She practices minimally invasive laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgical treatments (when a small camera is inserted through the cervix to examine the uterus) for common gynecologic problems. She also has expertise in gender-affirming surgical care, including minimally invasive salpingectomy, oophorectomy and hysterectomy.
Burns earned her medical degree at UCSF and her master's in social welfare at UC Berkeley as a member of the Program in Medical Education for the Urban Underserved, a program designed to support students committed to health equity and providing health care to underserved urban communities. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Harvard.
In addition to caring for patients, Burns is interested in health equity and improving patient outcomes by addressing social determinants of health. She is also passionate about training the next generation of compassionate and surgically skilled obstetrician-gynecologists.
