About me
Dr. Ahmed A. Naiem is a vascular surgeon who specializes in conditions of the aorta (the heart's major artery), aneurysms (bulges in weakened blood vessel walls), carotid artery disease (when fatty deposits narrow blood vessels supplying the brain) and peripheral artery disease (narrowing of the blood vessels supplying the legs). He has a special interest in caring for patients with complex diabetic vascular disease who could benefit from revascularization procedures, which can restore blood flow and prevent amputations. He performs both traditional surgeries for vascular conditions and endovascular (minimally invasive) treatments.
In his research, Naiem focuses on treatment outcomes for patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia, a severe form of peripheral artery disease. He studies ways to standardize diagnosis of the condition and measure its severity. The goal of his research is to help both providers and patients avoid amputations, whenever possible, through a better understanding of peripheral artery disease. He has authored many peer-reviewed articles in leading vascular surgery journals.
Naiem earned his medical degree at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman. He completed a residency in vascular surgery at McGill University in Montreal.
