Advanced vascular and endovascular therapies at UCSF Health
Our team diagnoses and treats all types of vascular diseases at multiple locations around the Bay Area. We offer:
High-risk expertise. We treat high-risk patients who are referred from other centers across the region due to the complexity of their vascular condition.
Broad experience. We treat the full range of vascular conditions, such as aneurysms, aortic diseases, arterial blockages, carotid artery disease, venous insufficiency and peripheral artery disease.
Rare disease expertise. We also treat less common vascular conditions, such as vascular graft infections, blocked arteries to the kidneys or intestines, vascular thoracic outlet syndrome and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAA).
Minimally invasive procedures. We perform catheter-based procedures as an alternative to open surgery. These procedures are shorter and have a lower risk of complications. Our team has expertise with the full range of interventions to provide each patient with the right procedure at the right time.
Coordinated care. We streamline your appointment to include diagnostic studies and provider visits in one day.
Collaborative care
We work closely with our colleagues across UCSF Health to provide complete treatment for:
Aortic disease. Our aortic disease specialists treat common and rare aortic conditions with a collaborative approach.
Limb preservation. Our limb preservation team treats people with severe leg circulation problems and wounds.
Stroke. Our stroke specialists provide comprehensive care for people who had a stroke or are at risk of a stroke.
Advanced vascular testing
We use the latest ultrasound technology to evaluate how blood moves through your veins and arteries. Vascular ultrasound is a painless, noninvasive procedure using sound waves to produce images. Vascular ultrasounds may take up to an hour, depending on the study.
Our accredited laboratory provides the full range of vascular diagnostic testing, including:
Abdominal vascular exam. We evaluate the aorta and its major branches to abdominal organs.
Extracranial cerebrovascular arterial duplex scan. We evaluate vessels in the head and neck, such as the carotid artery.
Transcranial Doppler study. We study blood vessels within the skull that supply blood to the brain.
Venous and arterial studies of legs and arms. We evaluate blood flow from the legs and arms to the heart.
Physiologic studies. We measure the blood flow to the leg and foot and can also test it during exercise.
