About me
Dr. Andrew J. Gross, a rheumatologist, is co-director of the UCSF Scleroderma Center and medical director of rheumatology at UCSF. An expert in caring for people with scleroderma (a condition that causes tightening of the skin and connective tissues) and other complex autoimmune diseases, he enjoys developing long-term relationships with patients and families as he supports them in living full lives with autoimmune diseases. Gross collaborates closely with his rheumatology colleagues and specialists throughout UCSF to provide comprehensive care.
Gross's research investigates of the causes of scleroderma. He collaborates with immunology researchers at UCSF to seek new treatments for scleroderma, which they believe will be discovered by better understanding how cells of the immune system become deregulated.
A native of Washington, D.C., Gross earned his medical degree at Tufts University. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in rheumatology at Tufts Medical Center, where he remained for another year as faculty in rheumatology. In 2003, he joined UCSF and completed a post-graduate fellowship in microbiology and immunology. He joined the UCSF faculty in 2008.

Dr. Gross is an amazing doctor. He is beyond professional the nicest human on the planet and an amazing rheumatologist. He takes time to answer my questions and I feel like I am in the most capable hands and he is managing my RA so that I'm living pain-free on the meds that he is prescribed. I feel very fortunate to have him as my rheumatologist. This time I also had a resident Dr. Dean who I saw before Dr. Gross. She was terrific very professional good bedside manner very knowledgeable and she also was great at answering my questions she toois a terrific doc!

Dr Gross has been a very good provider for me at UCSF. At this time, we are going to hold off on seeing him anymore, but if I feel my symptoms become worse, he said to always call him.
