About me

Dr. Aparajita Singh is a gastroenterologist with special interests in colon cancer prevention, high-quality colonoscopy and polyp removal. As director of UCSF's gastrointestinal cancer prevention program, she draws on her expertise in caring for patients with a family history of gastrointestinal cancer, including those with Lynch syndrome (which increases colon cancer risk) or familial adenomatous polyposis (an inherited condition causing polyps in the large intestine).

As the gastroenterology division's quality improvement director, Singh is devoted to enhancing communication, as well as the quality and safety of patient care. Also passionate about medical education, she has served as director of gastrointestinal medicine clerkships and received an award for teaching excellence from the UCSF Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators. She directs the gastroenterology division's grand rounds (part of medical training in which actual patient cases are discussed).

Singh earned her medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. She completed a residency in internal medicine at the Cleveland Clinic, followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology at UCSF. She also has a master of public health degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she was awarded the Louis E. Goodman, MD Award.

Singh has held several leadership positions in professional associations, including vice president and president of the Northern California Society for Clinical Gastroenterology. She has received national and international honors for her work, and has served on several professional committees, including the training and professionalism committees of the American College of Gastroenterology, for which she also served as director of the annual second-year fellows course.

In her free time, Singh enjoys playing tennis and practicing yoga.
