About me
Dr. B. Shoshana Zha is a pulmonologist who cares for adults with lung disorders. She specializes in bronchiectasis (a condition involving damage to lung airways) and lung infections with nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), organisms found in dust, soil and water. She co-directs a clinic dedicated to NTM infections, cares for patients in intensive care, and provides general pulmonary care at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.
Zha's research focuses on understanding how the immune system responds to mycobacterial infections (which can cause such diseases as tuberculosis and leprosy). Outside of the laboratory, she also studies ways to optimize treatments for bronchiectasis and NTM infections.
Zha earned her medical degree and a doctorate in microbiology at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Washington and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at UCSF.

The depth of knowledge and experience of the doctor for my health condition was so reassuring. She kindly listened to my concerns and questions and went far beyond in the concerns and detailed instructions for a positive outcome - a most impressive example of the care at a research hospital like UCSF. Thank you!
