Dr. David Sears is an infectious disease specialist who cares for patients living with HIV and those with infectious diseases.
One area of Sears' research is evaluating health care quality in outpatient HIV clinics and in the California Correctional Health Care Services system.
Sears earned his medical degree from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He completed a residency in internal medicine at New York – Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and a fellowship in infectious diseases at UCSF.
Sears is passionate about medical education and has directed a number of educational initiatives at the UCSF 360 Wellness Center, where he instructs trainees in addition to caring for HIV-positive patients. He serves as faculty sponsor for the UCSF medical students' HIV interest group and on the committee of the HIV Medicine Association Medical Students Program. In 2019, he received an award for teaching excellence from the UCSF Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators.
