I had never seen this doctor before. I was in for a nuchal tranlucency screening and this doctor was called in by the technician to tell me that my baby was no longer living. She delivered the news in a a very straightforward manner. I did not feel compassion from her. I was sitting down and she was standing up the entire time which felt very bad to me. I was very emotional and expressed that this was not the way I would have wanted to recieve this news and she responded quickly "How would you have liked to receive this news?" Her tone was almost defensive. I felt no warmth from her. It was a pretty horrible experience.

Dr. Ghaffari was wonderful and took plenty of time to explain everything to me and make sure to provide space for my questions.

I was really unhappy with this doctor's bedside manner. She gave me some pretty scary/potentially bad news about my pregnancy with a completely expressionless tone of voice and face. She didn't even bother to sit down even though I was lying down with the expectation that she would look at the ultrasound some more (which the tech had said she might). She began every sentence with "unfortunately" which was the only acknowledgement I got that there might be something wrong with my baby. I was really disappointed because every other doctor I've seen at UCSF obstetrics and perinatal medicine has been so compassionate.
