About me
Dr. Evan Walker is a gastrointestinal oncologist who cares for patients with cancers of the digestive system, particularly those of the pancreas, esophagus and stomach.
Walker's research focuses on developing new cancer treatments through the design and conduct of clinical trials. He also studies genetic and environmental risk factors for cancer, and he is especially interested in the relationship between the human microbiome (microorganisms living in the body) and the development of pancreatic cancer.
Walker earned his medical degree at UCSF, where he also completed a residency and chief residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology and oncology.
Walker is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and American Association for Cancer Research, and he has received ASCO's Conquer Cancer Young Investigator Award and Merit Award. He also has a strong interest in medical education. At UCSF, he co-directs an educational program on clinical research (studying humans to advance medical knowledge and treatments) for internal medicine residents as well as a course on narrative medicine (an approach to medicine informed by understanding patients' life stories) for medical students.
