About me
Dr. Gerami Seitzman is an ophthalmologist who specializes in corneal and external diseases of the eye. She has particular interests in infectious and inflammatory eye diseases, dry eye syndrome, and how various medications and diseases may affect the eyes and vision. She cares primarily for adult patients.
Seitzman places great importance on listening carefully to her patients. She practices in academic medicine so that she can model patient-centered care and communication to doctors in training, especially in an era when health care increasingly involves technology and impersonal interactions. She teaches ophthalmology to medical students, residents and physicians on fellowship.
Seitzman's research focuses on infectious eye diseases and dry eye conditions. In particular, she is interested in how modern DNA sequencing techniques and advanced imaging methods can improve the diagnosis and treatment of potentially blinding corneal infections.
Seitzman earned her medical degree at the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed a residency in ophthalmology at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute, followed by a fellowship in corneal and external eye diseases at the UCSF Francis I. Proctor Foundation for Research in Ophthalmology.
After completing her fellowship, Seitzman lived in Baltimore and the United Kingdom before returning to the Bay Area and joining UCSF.
Seitzman belongs to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Phi Beta Kappa Society. In her free time, she enjoys theater, reading and running after her two young children.
