About me

Dr. Howard J. Lee is a hematologist-oncologist who cares for patients with a range of cancers. He specializes in cancers of the breast, lung and genitourinary system.

In his research, Lee studied quality of life for patients during cancer treatment, doctor-patient communication, and the care of older adults with cancer. His research has been recognized with an American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Merit Award and a grant from the National Institute on Aging.

Lee earned his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, followed by a fellowship in hematology-oncology at UCSF, where he served as chief fellow and was recognized for his commitment to humanistic patient care (approaching patients not just as medical cases, but as people with their own unique needs, goals and values). He is a member of ASCO and the Association of Northern California Oncologists.

Outside of work, Lee spends most of his time with his wife and son. A native of Spokane, Washington, he loves outdoor activities, particularly playing soccer, bicycling and running. When he has the chance to travel to a new city, he always tries to visit any local aquariums.

Dr Lee was very easy to talk with, explained what he thought would be the first steps in finding the reason my red counting low. Advised me to do a walk in visit at the Burlingame location at my convenience and then reschedule to see him again when he had more information to work with.

Dr. Howard Lee put me at ease as well as frank about what may or may not be. He has ordered bloodwork and have followup appt in one month. Appreciated positive vibe from Dr. Lee. It makes one have faith in the matter.
