About me
Dr. Jessica Shantha is an ophthalmologist who specializes in caring for patients with infectious or inflammatory eye diseases, including uveitis (swelling of the uvea, the eye's middle layer).
In research, Shantha's interests include eye inflammation and emerging pathogens (agents that cause disease). She is also interested in addressing international gaps in care and research for eye diseases. She worked in West Africa for two years treating patients who had eye conditions and were living in limited-resource settings. She continues to advocate for Ebola virus survivors who need ongoing eye care and is dedicated to working toward equity in vision health.
Shantha completed her medical degree at the Morehouse School of Medicine and completed a residency in ophthalmology at Emory University. She completed a fellowship in medical retinal disease at Retina Consultants of Hawaii and a fellowship in clinical uveitis at the UCSF Francis I. Proctor Foundation for Research in Ophthalmology.
