Eternally enchanted by the Eastern Sierras
Mariano Wechsler is a physical therapist who cares for patients with a wide array of sports and other orthopedic injuries. He collaborates with his patients to create treatment plans centered on individual circumstances and goals. To meet specific needs, he incorporates a variety of techniques – such as manual therapy, strength training, therapeutic exercise and functional movements – into these plans.
One of Wechsler's research interests is how emerging technologies can be applied to improve patient care. He has used large data sets to explore the best treatments for frozen shoulder and to look at sociodemographic disparities in patient care. He is particularly interested in using virtual reality and deep learning technologies to enhance patient assessment and interventions.
Wechsler earned a bachelor's degree in exercise biology at the University of California, Davis and his doctor of physical therapy degree from the joint program of UCSF and San Francisco State University. At UCSF, he completed a residency in orthopedic physical therapy.
