About me

Dr. Mark Terrelonge Jr. is a neurologist who cares for patients with nerve and muscle disorders, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS); inflammatory nerve diseases, such as Guillain-Barre syndrome and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy; genetic muscle and nerve disorders; and disorders of the neuromuscular junction, such as myasthenia gravis.

At the UCSF School of Medicine, Terrelonge serves as an assistant director for the residency program in neurology and as a lecturer on weakness related to neuromuscular disorders. Other endeavors include developing satellite clinics for people with ALS or other neuromuscular conditions who live in rural areas of Northern California and Hawaii. He is also designing a blueprint for establishing multidisciplinary ALS clinics in the United States and abroad using telehealth to make subspeciality neurological services available to more people. At Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, he is launching a specialty clinic to provide underserved patients in the area with neurological care.

After earning a bachelor's degree in neurobiology at Harvard University, Terrelonge earned a master of public health degree at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. He earned his medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine and completed a residency in neurology at UCSF, serving as chief resident. He also completed a fellowship in neuromuscular medicine at UCSF. During his training at UCSF, he received the Teaching Excellence Award for Cherished Housestaff and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He is a John A. Watson Faculty Scholar at UCSF.

My experience with Dr. Terrelonge was fantastic. He read the info I sent him ahead of time. He listened to me. He was respectful. He had thoughts and ideas and explanations. He valued my time and money. This is the specialist experience I've been waiting for for two years.
